April 6, 2009- The Design Center Appointment

Today Steven and I drove home early from Birmingham to be at the design center by 2 o'clock. Today was so cold. It was 50 degrees, cold, rainy and windy. I couldn't believe it. It had been warm and in the 70's the past week. It was cold and rainy, and I had a horrible headache, and a sore throat-due to the sudden temperature drop (that lead to me being sick all week long), alas, we went to the design center. I didn't want to reschedule, because I didn't know when we would be able to go back. I was so glad I had asked our realtor the past week to come with us to the appointment. She is so good to us!! I was really glad, because I didn't feel really good, and she helped us decide on things-since I didn't feel so great.

Anyway, there were so many things to choose! Front door, shutters, vinyl, brick-we chose Boral Blacksburg, front door knob-we chose oil rubbed bronze, interior doors, carpet, wood flooring, knob pulls, drawer pulls for the kitchen, drawer and knob pulls for the bathroom, kitchen faucets in stainless steel, oil rubbed bronze faucets for the rest of the house, tile for the kitchen, tile for the bathrooms, grout to go in the tiles, cultured marble for the bathrooms, fireplace tiles and paint colors-by the way, for the whole house, we chose Sienna Sand from Pittsburgh Paint. Other things that we had to chose were, granite for the counter tops-we are actually going to get to pick out our own granite slab! The color we chose was Santa Ceceila, we got to choose whether the counter top would be beveled, rounded, or squared. We chose beveled, because the lady said it used to be an upgrade, but just came off the upgrade list-so we figured we we'd try it-since it was no longer an upgrade. We got to choose the picture window that goes in the bathroom. It is a really pretty window that is called Renaissance. We got to chose our fireplace mantel.

There were more things but I can't remember them all. We will still have to choose all of our lighting, our appliances, shower doors, and fixtures, bathroom shelving, at a later date-probably more but I can't remember them all! So many things to choose!!! We are hoping they will get started building this week. They haven't started as of yet.

Today we got a call...

Today our realtor told us that our final plans for the house are ready to be signed. We are SO excited-the next step is our design center appointment-the one where we get to pick out all kinds of neat stuff for our home like appliances, carpet, paint, lights, etc. I will be taking lots of pictures!!! We did find out our house number-5038! I already like the sound of it...

The Oliver

Alabama Heritage Homes is building our home. This is our floor plan. It is a ranch style floor plan called Oliver. It is one of the newer floor plans so it isn't listed online yet. It will be 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. It is a ranch style home, 2004 square feet heated and cooled, the garage is 430 square feet and the porches are all together 150 square feet. We changed the plan a little. We extended the back covered porch by 4 feet (2 on each side). We have changed the back door and added french doors. We added crown molding to bedrooms two and three. We added a utility sink in the laundry room-I am SO excited about this!! Steve can put his muddy soccer clothes, and hunting clothes right in there as soon as he comes in from the garage.

Ok, I am just going to stick with this for now.

It is amazing looking at other people's Blogger sites. I am not that good at putting this together...yet. Maybe I can get tips from my sister Missie. She is an expert with Emmalynne's blog.

But everyone else's Blogger layout...

I feel like my Blogger layout is pitiful compared to some people's layouts. I am going to rethink my layout, and get creative...We'll see...

The Beginning...

After looking for 3-4 months to buy a home in S.E. Huntsville, and having all kinds off crazy stuff happen-just ask our realtor about it (our realtor has been so positive and so encouraging and continues to be as we begin this project!)!! Steven and I purchased a home (that has yet to be built) Thursday March 26, 2009. This the the lot where we are building in the Valley Cove subdivision in Hampton Cove, Alabama. We decided to purchase a lot in a cul-de-sac because the lots were much larger. The builders are going to begin building in the next two weeks. The home is slated to be finished late August or early September. It all depends on the unpredictable Alabama weather... We will keep everyone posted as things progress. We are really excited!!! Soon, Emmalynne can come and visit her Aunt Jennie and Uncle Steven.
